Technical Director for Awake & Sing!
IMMEDIATE HIRE - Technical Director (P-T Contract Term through November 9, 2025; $2,000 Fee)

Sea Dog Theater’s staff operates remotely and programs out of St. George’s Episcopal Church in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of New York, where we are presently producing the New York revival of Clifford Odets’ Awake and Sing! This is our follow up production to our sold out and critically acclaimed production of Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays with Morrie which starred Tony Award-winner Len Cariou (OBA Best Revival 2024).
Sea Dog Theater seeks the immediate hire of a Technical Director to support, on-site, our 16-performance, 4-week run of Clifford Odets’ Awake & Sing! in Manhattan. The technical director will engage with and support the creative team on all technical elements of the production, with particular emphasis on load in, technical rehearsals, previews, performance turnovers, and strike. The successful candidate may not be an expert in any one technical field, but has varied experience including carpentry, lighting, sound, and video production, and developing and managing logistics plans for load in and strike of a small production.
Position Responsibilities Include:
Strong communication and coordination between production departments and team administration
Develop and execute on production solutions with creative team
Develop logistics plans for and physically support load in, performance changeover, and strike
Maintain set and performance space for the duration of the rehearsal process and performance run
Physical Expectations:
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Ability to be on site in New York during the rehearsal and performance period (now through November 9, 2025)
Personal access to power tools
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
B.A. degree or equivalent, with professional technical director or production manager experience
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Detail-oriented with organization, project management, and time management skills
Ability to perform a substantial number of tasks independently
Ability to work cooperatively, foster team spirit, and maintain a positive demeanor
Ability to solve problems independently
Ability to clearly communicate needs and expectations to fellow team members

Compensation: $25/hour, averaging 10 hours per week
