WHAT WE DO
SEA DOG THEATER, AN AWARD-WINNING OFF-OFF-BROADWAY THEATER COMPANY, IS DEDICATED TO EXPLORING THEMES OF ALIENATION AND RECONCILIATION.
At Sea Dog Theater, we gather around stories, shared meals, and honest conversations to explore questions of alienation and reconciliation. Through intimate and innovative theater productions, we invite artists and audiences into a shared search for meaning, one encounter at a time.
Through our unique Reading Series and community engagement initiatives, we bring diverse voices together to foster meaningful discussions and societal change. The true value of a Sea Dog reading far exceeds the suggested donation, and that is intentional. From the beginning, we’ve pushed against the transactional nature of theater in New York, where meaningful experiences are often expensive or exclusive.
Our hope is that people leave feeling they’ve been given more than they paid for. Sustaining members make that generosity possible, helping us create evenings that gather strangers, foster real conversation, and remind us how to be in the same room together again, something that feels especially necessary right now.
We create theater for our artists and for our audiences, with every aspect of production designed to bring people into community with one another.
WITH EACH PRODUCTION WE PRIORITIZE, YOU CAN EXPECT:
Stories that gather communities across differences
Equitable treatment of artists, honoring their craft, time, and talent
Radical hospitality in a space where strangers convene and dialogue about their shared experience
